Nineteen-year-old Whitney Apperson is an outstanding volunteer who has served in a variety of ministries at Butterfield for the past five years. She and her brother Garrett work in the Kitchen Ministry where they help their parents, Fred and Sally Apperson, cook and serve for Wednesday pre-service meals, funerals and other church functions. As a member of the Media Ministry, Whitney operates a camera for services and also runs the video switcher. In Blaze52 Youth, Whitney is a youth coach and runs the sound for youth services. She also enjoys singing and is involved in the Safe Haven Choir, Praise Team and was a member of the Arkansas All-State Youth Choir for two years. In the past, she has competed in District Fine Arts and made it to National Fine Arts for three consecutive years.
Whitney is employed through Citizen’s Bank and is currently attending the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. She plans to continue her education in the future at Oklahoma University and major in meteorology and broadcasting.
What do you enjoy about being at Butterfield and the ministries you are involved in?
I love Butterfield because of the people and the services. I enjoy the media team because of all the awesome people I get to be around. I like working in youth because I like being able to touch kids’ lives with what I do. I love helping out in the kitchen because I get to help my mom out and because I like to cook, and I love being in choir and on the praise team because I love to sing and worship.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
What spare time?! I love being with my family. I like playing with my dogs and camping.
What word(s) would describe your personality?
Outgoing and friendly.
What is an interesting or memorable experience you have had working in your ministry?One morning I was running the switcher for the Media Ministry and was unaware that I was flashing the lyrics to a song off and on for the main screens because you can’t see them from the media room. It was a stressful morning!
What is something about you that most people don’t know?
Something that most people don't know is that I used to show animals in the fair.
What is your favorite thing to cook?
I like to cook anything that I get to eat afterward!
What is your favorite dessert?
Cheesecake.
What is your favorite song? Favorite band?
I love the song “Because of Who You Are” and Skillet is my favorite band.
Have you received any special awards?
I got second place in the 5News Talent Show and won tons of awards showing animals.
Who do you admire most and why?
My parents because no matter what I can turn to them and they'll always be there for me.
What are three things you could not live without?
My family, my iPhone and cheesecake.
What is something you would like to do in your lifetime?
Go skydiving and have kids.
What is your favorite movie?
“The Proposal.”
What is your favorite event at Butterfield?
Worship.

“Don't put off till tomorrow what you can do today.”

Whitney is such a valuable asset to the ministry of Butterfield Church. She is an awesome young woman living for God who has a heart to serve and she is such a big blessing to this church family!
