Anyone in the community who is 16 years or older is invited to participate in a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament to be held at the Butterfield Church Family Life Center in March.
The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 13. The cost for a team, maximum of four players, to register is $100. There will also be a 3-Point Shootout on Saturday with an entry fee of $10 a person. The first place winners of both competitions will receive tickets to an Oklahoma City Thunder game.
The idea to hold a basketball tournament originated from the men’s basketball ministry that meets each Monday night at the church, according to Ryan Rose, Butterfield media director and men’s basketball coordinator.
“Each Monday night we have anywhere from 20 to 30 guys show up to play basketball, fellowship with one another and do a short devotion,” explained Rose. “We wanted to find a way to get others in the community involved who enjoy the sport, and as a result, thought this could be a great way to help support our church building fund.”
Rose said he wants this to be a fun tournament for everyone who participates and guarantees every team that signs up the opportunity to play at least two games, regardless of their level of talent. It is free to come and watch, and there will also be a concession stand both days.
The deadline to register for the tournament is Thursday, March 11. Interested parties should contact Butterfield Church at 479-474-4410. The Family Life Center is located at 414 South 4th Street.
